Nice outfit, Luke.
For presents, she got clothes, books (Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Ramona series), yarn to make pom poms and a scarf loom, and a Harry Potter wand--Luna Lovegood's, actually. (Madelyn is a Ravenclaw just like Luna.)
She helped to make her birthday cheesecake, and then everyone helped to eat it.
The day before her birthday, we went for a little swim party with Madelyn's friends Emma and Danzi. I am so glad that she is okay to have low key birthdays now. We used to do big themed parties and it is just too much to handle four days before Christmas!!
The week before her birthday, we took her to see The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies at her request. She loved it. I was an emotional mess but she didn't shed a single tear.
She had her 10 year checkup and here are her stats:
Height: 4 ft. 6 inches (43rd percentile)
Weight: 56 lbs. 12 oz. (8th percentile)
Long and skinny, as always! She needs size 10 clothes to have the arms and legs long enough, but then everything else is baggy. In fact, I have a whole pile of jeans that I need to somehow alter so they aren't so roomy in the rear. (She only wants to wear "skinny jeans" but she is the size of a 6 year old with much longer legs.) She wears size 2 shoes and always scuffs up the toes somehow. She has lost almost all her baby teeth already--she is about two years ahead of schedule. She lost both canines last week and accidentally swallowed one of them. It really freaked her out.
Likes: reading, drawing, the colors yellow and blue, ice cream, mechanical pencils, gymnastics, Minecraft, PopTropica, big open spaces to run around on, Angels and Airwaves, Taylor Swift, U2, The Beatles, Imagine Dragons, Downton Abbey, and anything geeky.
Dislikes: bedtime, homework, flossing, putting laundry away, and cleaning her room.
SUU Thunderbirds Christmas tree! She is coached in gymnastics by one of their gym team members, and trains at their facility.
She goes to gym twice a week. She has fun and likes the trampoline and bars the best.
She's always reminded me of Mowgli.
This is the sort of thing that goes on when I'm not looking and she steals the camera.
She and Luke get along pretty well when she's not being too bossy. They both love Minecraft but it drives her nuts when Luke does something "wrong" and then they get in fights. She can go from being sweet and helpful to cranky and moody in the blink of an eye.
She loves her younger cousins and is great to have around when babysitting.
She sang a solo part to "The Family is of God" during the Primary program and helped Luke with his part. I was so proud! She has a beautiful voice.
Two weeks later, she was too shy to even read a talk in Primary. She goes through phases of wanting to be in the spotlight and then not wanting anyone to look at her.
She is doing well in 4th grade. She is a model student and is doing much better in math since her teacher cut her work load in half (she has a 504 plan that accommodates for her ADD, but her teacher had forgotten about it...). She has to do big school reports every 3 weeks--either book reports or animal research reports. This fancy getup she was wearing was when we had to film her doing a book report, news style.
One of her diorama book reports (on Ramona Quimby, Age 8)
One of her animal reports
This was her latest project--a game she (meaning I) had to invent, based on a book she read. Next, we are "engineering" a Valentine's Day box, writing an essay for Sons of Utah Pioneers and then getting ready for the science fair!
I cannot wait till 4th grade is over.
She loves to draw and color and uses her chalkboard/whiteboard almost every day. She also loves reading, music, frolicking (especially when she's supposed to be doing something else), helping out in the kitchen and playing with the cat and her baby sister.
She and Tiger have a close relationship and he loves all the attention that she gives him. This was when she was recovering from the stomach flu and watched 12 episodes of Mythbusters (10 hours straight) on the couch. She loves anything sciencey...NOVA, Cosmos, nature documentaries. Once she told me she dreamt that she was receiving an award for discovering a new sea animal.
I am so glad to have this spunky, exasperating, sensitive, artistic, compassionate girl in my life! ♥
