The Naked Chef

Apparently, clothing is not entirely necessary when flouring chicken cutlets. Who knew?

5 months along

6/8/09

Today I had another OB checkup. If I'm going by my Oct. 4th due date, then last Thursday I hit my five month mark. (Telling people I'm 23 weeks usually gets me blank stares, unless they've been pregnant themselves.) Here's a belly pic:

I know, I know. I've finally "popped." I have been informed of this by many, many people. So far my total weight gain has been...drumroll please...two pounds. I don't know how on earth two pounds can look so big. But the baby is growing on track, so that is good news. Madelyn's growth screeched to a halt when I hit 30 weeks with her, so we are keeping a close eye on all my measurements.

However, I have been having a lot of near-fainting episodes, and my doctor has decided to get some further testing done to make sure my heart is OK. I am slightly tachycardic (my heart rate is over 100 beats per minute) so I am scheduled for an echocardiogram Wednesday morning. Plus, for the next three weeks I have to wear a portable EKG monitor and activate it whenever I'm feeling short of breath, faint, or dizzy. I hit a little button during an episode and my monitor will record my heart rhythms for 45 seconds, which I then submit to a database. Here's what it looks like:

There is also a patch that's located on my upper left ribcage. So far it hasn't been bothersome to wear, but we'll see how I feel after having it on for three weeks straight.

It looks kind of alarming, but I am probably just fine. Even back in high school I can recall from PE class that my heart rate is normally pretty high--in the upper 80's to mid 90's. I also have low blood pressure, and that as well as my growing uterus squishing my aorta contributes to a lot of my symptoms. Being pregnant tends to exacerbate existing conditions, and being "delicate" and "petite" isn't helping me either, apparently.

So I'll try to take it easy (while I get ready to move--ha!!) to make sure I get a clean bill of health at my next appointment. Onward and upward!

Ta Daa!!

6/6/09

They did it! Maria and Shay are officially hitched. (Huge sigh of relief...) Everything went well and I am just waiting for my seven rolls of film to be developed before I show you how fabulous it was. More posts soon to come!

Our first house!!

6/4/09

We got news a couple days ago that a house that we bid on in Cedar City is officially OURS! This was the third house we'd tried to buy--we were outbid on the other two. This one came on the market on May 20th, and our realtor called up Mark and said he needed to come see it right away. So he saw it on his lunch break, decided it was perfect, and put in an offer. I had never even seen a single picture of the place. Luckily, he didn't let me down. The house is cute and in good shape (albeit a little dirty and the back yard needs landscaping) but it's in a great neighborhood and the resell value will be good.

It sold back in 2006 for $245,000, was foreclosed on, and we snatched it up for $137,000, plus closing costs. Of course someone lost out on a lot of money, but at least it wasn't us! It has 1,442 square feet, three bedrooms, two baths with a two car garage on a .22 acre lot. A nice starter home. Here's some pics:

CUTE, huh!

The front room, complete with the dirty carpet. Gotta love that.

The front entryway. The paint colors look different in all the pictures because of the lighting .

The appraisal has already been done, and things are moving forward very quickly. Our mortgage broker tells us we may be able to close as early as next week! That is equal parts exciting and nerve-wracking. Ho boy. So I guess instead of kicking my feet up and having a relaxing summer, I will get to start packing and moving again. I guess this wasn't meant to be a restful year...

Must start thinking about the wedding cake now.... I'll see you on the other side of THE BIG DAY (Maria's wedding tomorrow)!

Maria's temple day

5/31/09

Yesterday my sister Maria went through the St. George temple. It was a beautiful day and I'm glad I got to be there for the special occasion. Here's some photos of a few of the people who came:

Shay's brother Kipp is preparing to go to North Carolina on a mission and so it was his first time going through also. So many big family events! The wedding is in five days--yay!! The insanity is almost over! Let's hope things will slow down after that. Oh wait, I might be moving in a month or so. (whimper...) Could somebody come check on me Saturday to see if I'm still breathing? Thanks. I appreciate it.

It must be that time of year again...

5/27/09

The end of May is always packed for our family. So let me just get this all out of the way right now: Happy 31st anniversary to my mom and dad today, happy belated birthday to my brother-in-law Paul (it was on Monday. Maria's was on Sunday--see previous post), and happy birthday in advance to my dad, whose special day is on Friday. Saturday will be fun too because Maria is going through the temple for the first time. Then it's on to the wedding! You can tell it's getting closer because instead of cleaning my house and getting ready for company, I am blogging. That's what I do.

You can also tell it's summer because Mark and Madelyn get antsy to do stuff outside. Mark came home from rock climbing the other day and had bought Madelyn her very own harness. She is so excited. It is still a little big on her, but she doesn't care. Mark was going to take her canyoneering last weekend in Zion, but thankfully it rained. I was not too happy about my four-year old rappelling off a 60 foot cliff, to tell you the truth. I think she needs to work up to that, ya know??

Well, it looks like it will support all of her 30 lbs. Just look at those gams! Madelyn thinks she's in training to become a model. Being pantsless apparently helps.

Then they had to have their inaugural swim of the year in my parent's pool. Madelyn loves to swim almost more than anything else in the world. She really takes after her dad.

And a couple weeks ago, our friends the Richards came to visit us from Albuquerque. It was fun to see them, chat and let Madelyn run wild in the park with Beckham and Ravi. We really miss those guys.

Madelyn, Ravi and Beckham. The shaggy-haired three.

That same weekend, my little sis Meg had her end of the year ballet performance. Madelyn and I went and I tried to take some non-flash pictures while she was dancing. Meg did really well and Madelyn got really excited about starting ballet lessons someday.

Meg's on the front left. The only one in focus. She inherited the Murset long, spindly limbs. Luckily those are ideal for dancers.

And since I haven't swooned over anyone in my blog lately, I thought it was high time for this. Ewan McGregor has long been one of my favorite actors (bad hairdos in Emma and Star Wars notwithstanding...) and on Saturday I went to go see him as the Camerlengo in Angels and Demons. I don't know why, but he just charms the heck out of me. Swoon, swoon, swoon! (Cue him singing in Moulin Rouge!) Check out this article.

Men's Health Guys: Ewan McGregor

Sigh. Time to wrench myself away from the computer and face the messy house. It's a shame that even though summer is here, laundry, bills and dishes know no season. Somebody really needs to do something about that.

Happy Birthday Maria!

5/24/09

Take a look at THIS Sentimental Sunday photo! Ha!! Well, Jaki and I still look fabulous (I know--you're loving the sweetheart necklines and the "short" sleeves on our lovely dresses), but boy has a lot changed with my two sisters in the past seven and a half years since I got married. Meg, in the white dress, was only six years old then, and Maria was thirteen.

Today is Maria's 21st birthday, and to accentuate the fact that I am way older than she is, the first thing she did when she saw me today was inform me that I had a gray hair and then pulled it out. Siiiiigggghhh. (Well, I can remember changing her diapers, her crying waking me up at night and her earth shaking tantrums. So there.) But look how cute:

Now Maria is going to be the blushing bride in only twelve days! Aww! I hope she has a wonderful wedding (especially because I was the wedding planner) and that she and Shay will have many years of marital bliss ahead of them. Happy birthday, sis--you are the best!
