Madelyn was so excited for her first day of 3rd grade last Thursday that she came into my room at about 7:40am and was fully dressed with her backpack on.
She wanted us to all take her to school, though, so she had to wait around for another hour. She picked some sunflowers for her teacher, Ms. Heap, in the meantime. Ms. Heap is in her 29th year of teaching 3rd grade, and I've heard wonderful things about her. Hoping for a good year!
Unfortunately, Ms. Heap's dad passed away a few days before school started, and she had to miss part of the first day to go to his funeral. :( Madelyn made her this card.

She looks just like Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service in these pictures. She wanted her hair cut short!
Luke insisted on bringing his backpack, too. He is dying to start school.
Madelyn's best friend Aderyn from 2nd grade came running up and gave her a huge hug. She was so excited because she thought Aderyn had moved away. She said Aderyn was always there to comfort her when she got hurt or got teased for crying (which happened A LOT last year...).
At that point, my camera battery died, so I took this on my phone. It looks like she'll have around 24 students in her class this year, as opposed to over 30 last year. (Good news.)
Two more years and you'll be a Polar Bear, too, Luke!
