The Shed Project, Part I

Actually, Part I of The Shed Project should be the full two years Mark has spent agonizing over it: what type to build, how big, whether to design it himself, how much it was going to cost, etc. Seriously...

Finally, it got down to the wire--we either build it now, or spend another winter not being able to park both cars in the garage. No thanks!

Mark had intended on just building it himself all along, but was hesitating because of the logistical nightmare of figuring out what he needed (and finding the money). After talking it over with our friend Jenny, who is a carpentry whiz, he finally just decided to buy a shed kit. She assured him that the cost would be about the same as if he'd bought all the components separately, but this way everything would already be pre-measured and cut.

Before he bought the kit, Mark borrowed my dad's trailer and spent a week or two laying a foundation of cinder blocks:

It was no picnic getting everything level--he had to redo the entire middle line. The ground is so hard that he had to use a pickaxe to dig in it, and he unearthed a few more dozen huge rocks.

 We found the shed kit (The Magestic) at Home Depot and were able to get a 10% discount on it (and it was already listed at $50 less than it said online). Mark had to rent a U-Haul just to get it home, since the Home Depot rental truck wasn't available and my dad's trailer was back in Hurricane:

 

 

Then he took it apart and stacked it all in the garage.

Yesterday after work, he built the floor:

 

Luke "helped". As in, climbed on everything, played with nails (then thew them all over the yard) and nearly got his finger chopped off.

  

It sure is exciting to be Luke

Mark  worked until it was too dark to see last night, but he got the floor finished! Hopefully he'll be able to put the walls together on Thursday (his day off) and then maybe have a shed-raising on Saturday with a couple of guys. WOOO! Storage is a girl's dream come true!!
