What do you know! We did go out as a family on Labor Day after all, before Mark headed back to Silver City. We are members of the BioPark Society here, so we have year passes to the Rio Grande Zoo, Albuquerque Aquarium, and Botanic Garden. The Aquarium and Gardens are adjacent to each other, but we usually favor the Aquarium because you can see the whole thing in a half hour and it's climate controlled. The Gardens are huge, so it's wise to go when it's either not so deathly hot that you are hating every moment and want to go join the ducks and koi in their (green, murky) ponds, and you don't want to go when it's below freezing at night either, like we did last December. Well, maybe you do because they have an amazing "River of Lights" display.
But anyways, the weather was pretty good on Monday, so we were able to appreciate how beautiful, peaceful and idyllic the Gardens really are. We spent a couple hours walking around and ended at their Butterfly Pavilion, which is a special enclosure that has hundreds of butterflies flitting around. Madelyn desperately wanted a butterfly to come sit on her finger, like she has seen in her videos. Mark was so impressed overall that now he wants a giant pond with a waterfall, a Japanese garden, and a butterfly pavilion when we have our own house someday. Yeah. So let us know if the weather in Southern Utah suddenly becomes conducive to having real flowers grow there...it would be nice.

You can grow flowers anywhere. As long as they are in a greenhouse.
I'm so glad someone else was as olympics obsessed as I was! I was totally hooked to the TV and finally feel like I can return to normal life again. Great pictures at the gardens! So pretty--if only they lasted all year.
