Pictures in the park (my version)

I brought my point and shoot camera along when we went to get our family pictures taken, and I'm happy I did! It was such a nice day and I ended up having 20 minutes to kill while our photographer went across town to get the memory card for his camera, which he forgot....

So I just followed the kids around while they explored the park. It has a river and a trail that leads right up the canyon. I like having these more candid pics of the kids just being themselves.

Family pics 2013

Last weekend, we had some family pictures done by my friend Greg Mauger from P&G Photography. We went to a park and trail in Cedar City just a few minutes from our house. Now I have to decide which prints to order. Help me decide!

 Ooo, so handsome. :)

Luke's 4 year stats

Luke had his 4 year checkup this week! He is taking after his sister and remaining somewhat on the dainty side.

Weight: 33 lbs. (24th percentile)
Height: 39 inches (22nd percentile)

He wears 3T clothes (although the pants are getting short) and the waistband on his clothes are usually too big, so he just takes them off. By now you should be used to seeing him in his underwear... He wears size 8 shoes but could probably move up to an 8 1/2.

He didn't even make a peep when they poked his finger at the doctor. If you remember, it took three people to hold Madelyn down for a finger prick earlier this year. So, it's nice to have at least one mellow child! His vision test was possibly showing some nearsightedness, but he seems to be fine for the time being.

He also still can't pronounce his "L" sounds, but we'll wait to see if he grows out of it. It's just cute for now. I said, "I love you!" the other day and he said, "I wuv you too" for the first time. AWWW.

He still likes "gums" and wants me to buy him a new one every time we go to the store.

His favorite shows are Sesame Street, SpongeBob SquarePants, Harry the Bunny, Word World and Avatar: The Last Airbender. He wants to be a firebender and runs out to do this tribal dance at the end of every episode:

He constantly hogs our iPhones so he can play Angry Birds Space and other apps (especially Dragonvale, which Mark and Madelyn play. He sells their stuff when they're not looking.). He switches our icons around, sets timers, texts people and takes screen shots, photos and videos of himself. Mashishi! He still loves playing games online on pbskids.org and sesamestreet.org and watching funny cat videos on YouTube.

He still enjoys being a dog from time to time and eating and drinking from bowls.

He is sort of a picky eater right now--even though he loves fruits and veggies and bread, he doesn't like meat and usually sticks to noodles or pizza or cereal as his favorites.

Riding on daddy's skateboard has been a recent pasttime

And putting his trains in my pots

He feels pretty super in his blue lightning jammies!

A while ago, I caught him hauling like 20 of his books outside so he could read while he was swinging and playing.

They accidentally got left out overnight, thank goodness it didn't rain! He is an excellent reader and yesterday was reading the sight word homework of Madelyn's friend who's in first grade.

Just now, he wanted me to read The Three Little Pigs by James Marshall, and I was just summing up each page because it's very wordy, and he decided to correct me.
"Mama.....it says, 'Well, the wolf was so scared, he ran all the way home.'"

He still ends up in our bed at some point every night or early morning. He is getting too big for that! A bigger bed won't fit into our room, so.....we just get squished.

Every time we get his trikes down, we find toys that had been missing inside his secret compartment. And rocks, he is constantly playing with rocks.

His feet can finally reach the pedals of the trike we got him last year!

He has me put his "superhero cape" on him occasionally, and then he zooms around. I call him Captain Underpants.

He is in Sunbeams at church and had his first Primary program last Sunday. He was too shy to say his part, so Madelyn got up with him, hoisted him up onto the stool, and said his part for him. Then at the end of the program, he stood up with a group of older kids during the song "A Child's Prayer" and just stood there smiling and looking up at them, it was so cute!

It was all very heartwarming, but then Luke tried to run away while Madelyn was fetching him from class after church was over, which turned into a brawl and screaming match in front of everyone. Oh, well. Most of the time they love each other.

??   I don't even know.

This was him just a few minutes ago, making snow angels on the kitchen floor in his favorite "bone jammies". He also likes to lie on the floor and go around in circles, a 'la Homer Simpson.

I don't know what I'd do without my little Mister!
